If this works, here's mine. It's a full size Cobra rig, I used 2" repair washers with m8 bolts to spread the load over the plastic, it's been fine with the off roading I've done. the power lead is tucked out of the way now, the pic was taken when installed & checking SWR.
The trig is using a mirror mount (longer bolts fitted) & an earth wire from 1 of the bolts going inside the plastic cover at the front to 1 of the roof bar bolts.
the view out of the rear view mirror is still good & the mic cord doesn't obstruct my view at all.

To be honest, with mine, i'm not getting any issues with the back lighting at night. Even back in the '90s when I had my 2a, the rig was mounted in the same place & the back lighting never affected me either.
My Freeloader is the commercial with bulkhead (just visible), so I may not be able to move my seat as far back as with the cars

do you have a cubby box in yours? if so, just move the switches from center console to the cubby box and place radio under the heater control knobs.
I've seen the aerial mounted on the 3rd stop-light on some Freelanders and like the look of it, don't know if it's the best place for getting a good signal guess metal roof would be better.

I have made a work light mount that sits above the 3rd brake light and was going to re do this to take the whip... I do have a center cubby box but it's already got the rear windows switches in it. My car has heated seats that are switched from the dash so would be a pain.
When I build the new dash top tray I'm going to powder coat it in black crackle so it should blend in nicely with the rest of the interior

Teddywood on here makes them cheaply an sells them on eBay. I have one on mine for a work light but they are supposed to be for an aerial

Here is the start of the dash pod
Checked for fit of the radio
And a handy tray on top
Will get it powder coated in the week and finally fit..
This is the current work light mount I'm going to re do this to take an aerial too and add an extra fitting as it wobbles a little when I shut the rear door

That's quite a nifty little box you've made there.
I'm thinking of mounting my reversing camera monitor in that position (being a commercial & on business policy, the insurance company prefer both reversing alarm & either audio or visual warning other than mirrors), also got a couple of switch boxes, which I'll try to see which fits in the cubby hole above the CB, if neither fit, then I'll have to have another look, although I don't want to have to order another switch box
