TC and difflock

Well the later ones have both. If they do not have 3 Amigos

ah thks mate, thats good to know, bet with both they are seriously good off road

another reason im swaying towards the disco is u can fit a good snorkel on them , a decent front winch and have low - high range

my pad is getting fuller by the minute, cheers guys

so will see in the cab then if its got either diff lock or tc, , is it better then to have the tc over diff lock , but of course if its got neither i assume its very expensive to retrofit it

u say about having a blip to raise the suspension , is that on the keyfob , sorry asking daft questions

just writing a lot of stuff down so can have it when i go and see them and be able to identify what its got and not as the case may be

It always has TC (and HDC). Diff lock was an option on most cars, not at all available in the 2003 model year (although you can swap the transfer box for one that does have it).

And yes, there is a separate key fob to lower the rear suspension. Raising is via a button in the cab, or automatically if the car detects that it has grounded.

cheers mate , most appreciated , bet thats some serious money putting a diff lock transfer box in, gulp

see the modern discos have the select terrain button now, getting more and more complicated but don't they look tasty , but seeing there around 40 k , but what a car

You can also see if the Disco has ACE if you look in the offside front wheel arch - you'll see a hydraulic ram connected to the drop link. Although the ACE might have been bypassed and the ram left there as my D2 is. (2001 TD5 XS). The power steering reservoir has been swapped to a single chambered one, and there's just an idler pulley where the ACE pump was located.

Traction control is damned good when it works (no 3 amigos), less bother about cross-axle-ing, so less need for momentum in some situations, gentler on the driveline due to not having a fast spinning wheel suddenly giving a jolt when it finds traction again. God, I sound like a Landy salesman! :D

Combining both TC and a difflock means the TC doesn't have to work (think) as hard, but be aware that a switch or two needs to be disconnected or else engaging the difflock cancels TC and HDC.

Only done a few green lanes so far, not tackling the ford lanes until three amigos are fixed and the chap I would go with has recovered from a hernia

My late 2003 has diff lock

cheers guys for the info, hopefully there in good nick and will see what they drive like, believe theres some tracks near where there stored so will get the chance of trying the low high range box etc to see whats what with them

not that i dont trust this neighbour but am always cautious of why he wants to do a swap, maybe totally genuine but think when u get older seem a bit more wary

really appreciate the info and still going through the forum for details etc

ask yourself why he wants to do this swap?,if you can get the disco up on a high lift ramp and thoroughly check the chassis for rust, not just the rear sections, but all of it as i know to my cost.especially check the inside chassis section where the fuel tank is.common bad rust area.;)

thks, learnt my lesson when i bought my first series, didnt get right underneath then when after i had bought it had it up on a ramp, was covered in welded plates all over

will be going over them with a fine tooth comb, taking my son and a jack and the wheels are coming off for starters

appreciate the heads up as im cautious as u , sounds to good to be true, lol

plus will do a full online check, to see if its been stolen accident etc

I've just bought a series 2 disco after having owned defenders and series 1 discos and I don't think you will have any worries about the driving experience. It drives very different and there's no wallow in mine, though it does have ACE. like previous models my TD5 was a bit slow before turbo gets going but this has been fixed with a £250 remap. I would perhaps think a V8 would be more difficult to sell on?

take a inspection mirror and a good torch so you can check chassis where the fuel tank is,as you cannot see it properly there, also take a strong screw driver to give the chassis a good prodding to make sure it has not been codged up like mine was.:mad:
