So today I started taking my dash apart to look at the dreaded Blend Motor Fault on my P38.

Cheque Book Symbol showing, Hawkeye says that the temp blend motor on drivers side is the one at fault (Blue Tag). Annoying as I changed all the blend motors in June 13!!!! (and Hevac)

So I got to the Blue Tag Blend motor, and indeed it is not responding to the Hevac Control.

I removed the Blue Tag Blend Motor, and took it apart (no broken cogs). I changed the temp (whilst it was apart), the motor did not spin!! (I know I shouldn't have done that, but I am getting the vibe it is dead!)

Strangely, when I do change the temp on the right hand side, I can hear the motor on the left churn away!! (as it does when I actually do change the temp on the left!!!!!) Why???

What do I do now!!! At a loss......

Thanks

No takers?

I think I will test the potentiometer then motor. If they check out then connection to the Hevac! Then I am not sure what!

This is just a guess but do you have the temperatures on both sides set very far apart from each other? According to the handbook the system wont achieve temperatures that more than 6 difference from the drivers side. So if you have the drivers on HI and the passenger on LO I think it will set them both to the drivers temperature. Then when you change the temperature on the drivers side it will change the passenger side temperature until they get within 6 degrees of each other.

AAHHHHH!!!!! that makes sense!!! Thank you...that maybe why there is a motor change.

I checked the blend motor over yesterday.

The potentiometer checked out ok (in that the resistence went from 0 to 1 smoothly ok)

I cleaned the electric motor brushes (and cooper bit) and it started to spin again!!!

I put the cogs back in, remembering to line up the arrows, but was not sure what setting the Hevac should be set at? Low/temp/HI? Does that even matter when you pop the blend back in to the Heater housing??

Should I think go to the HEVAC setting when powered up although I believe there is a calibration proceedure in diagnostics

Hawkeye does not do blend motor calibration. Landrover said they often just disconnect the battery!

Seems to be ok, in any event!

Told ya it maybe carbon dust shorting the armature. Lots of otherwise good motors in the scrap bin for want of a little cleaning. If you get the fault motor shorted to ground that is usually the cure.

You're the man! Not putting dashboard back yet, just to be sure.

Hi Rachel, I have this job waiting for me at some point :( Did you get the Genuine motors or aftermarket?

When I replaced them last year, I got a set from EBay 2nd hand. They were LR originals. One has failed, hence this posting. Hopefully got it working now.
