I fitted a new pair of horns in April as the one's fitted had stopped working,,
in fact never worked since i had it back in July last year..

anyway.. fitted new horn in april for mot,, all good.. then gradually it started sounding somewhat strangled, and now it bearly works again..

Is the position they are fitted (ie infront of the rad)prone to making them fail .. was thinking of fitting yet another new one but this time somwhere within the engine bay so its out of the way of any bad weather.
never had a problem like this befor in any of cars i've had before..

it doesnt get used for wading so its not like its filled up with ditchwater..

i will run an earth back to the battery and see if thats the problem,,

+1 nearly always the earth connection or oxidised contacts on the connectors.
pulling them off cleaning the blades and plugging on / off a few times often fixes it :)

pulled the bayonets off cleaned and copper greased, ,, still no different.. earth next

+2, earth problem. I have just changed my 20 year old horn and it wasn't the horn that needed replacing . It was the switch on the steering column.
