2001 DHSE

So after a year of faultless service the dreaded symbol has appeared.

It occasionally does not show up (bit random!). I used Hawkeye on it and it shows a fault which says "Right Blend Door Motor Circuit Fault (S/c to +12v other circuit).

Everything seems to be fine!!

Any ideas??

PS the outside temp is showing 90F which it clearly is not!!

Errr...just a guess, but I think there might be - I could be wrong - but I would say, and don't laugh now...I can only assume (don't know why!!) that there is a possible problem with the Right Hand Blend Motor, possibly ..... but I guess diagnostics could tell you more....

Ambient Temp sensor is mounted behind the Land Rover green oval on the grill....check this, usually when they fail they read a negative temp value....being under the bonnet in the beating sun it is possible it could reach 90degF until such time the air flow over it cools it down! - I was fecking hot yesterday!

LOL!! Cheeky!! I have switched the vents to low, middle and Windscreen, the air seems to direct correctly......could be just a clitch, I changed the motors a year a go.....could have gone again I supose.....

PS the outside temp is showing 90F which it clearly is not!!

With that fault it is highly likely to be a build up of carbon dust on the blend motor armature shorting it. The armature and brushes could be knackered or just need cleaning. You won't know til you strip motor and take a look.

Right hand BLEND motor is NOT the distribution motor which is what you just tested by doing that.

Two blend motors for independent blending of heat right and left. The right one being the lower motor on that side. The upper motor on the right hand side is the distribution motor, that switches air flow from facia to screen and down to lower cabin as required.

Ah ok, so the lower motor seems to be the one to check.......:scratching_chin:

On yours the outside temperature sensor will be to the left of the RAD looking from the front away from the heat, it's like a little cylinder pointing vertically.

Note that the last reading on the display when ignition is turned off will not change until the car has been driven at above 15 MPH for a time.

That is certainly not the case on mine, current temperature is displayed as soon as the engine is running.

So I took my Rangie for a long run. The heat goes hot and cold on left as directed by control. Air can be directed up and down on both sides ok. Can NOT get it to go from cold to hot on right side. So the lower right blend motor needs to be taken apart and cleaned? Good job for next week!! :scratching_chin:

That is certainly not the case on mine, current temperature is displayed as soon as the engine is running.

external air flow into the vehicle.
The ambient temperature sensor is located behind the
LH side of the vehicle in front of the condenser. The
revised location improves the response time of the
sensor. The new HEVAC software will not update the
ambient temperature sensor readings unless the
vehicle is travelling over approximately 15 mph (25
km/h). The HEVAC software will therefore not auto-matically
correct temperature readings when a faulty
ambient temperature sensor is renewed.

Pretty simple to disassemble the motor and clean it out. Reset marks on gears with drive boss in neutral position, flat along long nearest edge of motor case. DO NOT switch ignition on with motor disconnected from heater. Only with motor fastened to heater unit switch on and test for function/faults with diag.

If motor is run without being in position it will travel to an extreme in one direction and jam, can cause sheared teeth. Can be run on the bench at 5 volts in controlled conditions.
