Sitting in a cafe across the road from the garage while my Disco is being MOT'd for the first time since I acquired it last year. I hate MOT day!! Anyone else get the feeling of doom when theirs is due?? Lol

Well I spent all last week welding the arches and a few bits so hopefully will be up to scratch for the MOT tester. My first real attempts with the mig so fingers crossed. Hopefully I'll get to the point of knowing when it'll go through or not. I still lack the confidence in my mechanical/welding ability!! Lol

I know what you mean, could never decide which was worse MoT or fillings at the dentist.
I used to get that feeling when I did my own work, it's like a verdict on your abilities (or lack of). Now I'm a bit too old and stiff to crawl around in the gutter under a Landy so I just let my local indie garage look after things.
Now I just see pound signs.

dust cover id imagine would be easy job, if your doing a lot of miles then brakes would be good idea to change, only about 60-70 quid per axel so worth doing if you have time!
you can strike item 3 off the list, why did they feel the need to advise you its a land rover?

I know! I'd be worried it had no oil in it if the bottom wasn't dripping! I got it off a guy last October and it's only done just under 3k miles since the last test. Brakes are a must for me, picked up a stone which has scored a groove in the disc so that's getting sorted. Looking at the track rod and drag rod I think I'll change the whole lot. Looks like the ends are well and truly seized in there! Probably just as easy to do the whole lot.

The guy at the garage did say that they ripped the P"ss out of the tester for putting that. He's a picky bugger apparently and he's a bastid on Mondays lol. I'm just glad it passed and I can drive to work tonight and not have to take the wife's car!

A common place for oil to leak is the vapour return outlet on the driver's side of the cylinder head. It's a plastic block held on by one bolt and the 'O' ring seal reaches the end of its life and leaks. Try wrapping a bit of PTFE tape around it.
Or it could be the vacuum pump....
Or the rocker gasket....
Or the inlet manifold gasket (if your turbo oil seal is poor).....

I'll take a look at all those Vince. To be fair I changed all the fluids when I got it last year and I've not had to top the oil up yet. It leaves one or two drips on the deck after being used. Mainly it just clings round the sump edges and stops it rusting lol.

I am the same, always have dreaded the MOT. Don't know why but would rather go to the dentist than take the Landy for her annual test.
or you can buy a new one ...comes with a new O-ring
you can clean them with paraffin or petrol, but make sure it is DRY before re-fit and start up ...but you'd need to find an O-ring
