guys im new to this so here goes,

bought a v reg freelander1 xdi s wagon estate 2l diesel and i love it however i went to change the anti roll bar bushes at the front and i noticed a big oil leak on the oil filter and surrounding area.

cleaned it off and i run it for 10 mins late last night and no leak to be found and help would be appreciated .

i am good with tools as i was fixing tanks etc when i was in the army but im stumped .:(

Is the oil filter o' ring on correctly, filter on nice and tight. Does the oil look old, could it have been there since the last oil change. Is the oil noticeably lower than when last checked.
Eliminate the easy obvious stuff, then panic

Just yesterday, I wasted two hours on the hoist, with the SAME issue. Long story,....in short,.....noticed a BIG leak, especially as I was climing up to the garage (inclined driveway). It was a LINE on the pavement! Before that there was some oil drops on the squeaky clean wheelwell liner. I panicked, and considered to have it delivered to the garage on the flatbed (I didn't, I drove to it,...3 miles total).

Took off the front right wheel, wheelwell liner, skid plate, and washed EVERYTHING with loads of carb and choke cleaner. Dried it all off, started the car, and went looking under with mirrors, and flashlights (two of us). No leak. Reved the engine to 2K, and kept it there for few minutes....no leak.

Then I realized that I had the oil change done the same day when it "leaked"! The grease monkeys spilled a whole bunch of fresh oil down the engine, and it pooled onto the skid plate. It was happy there (splashing backwards onto the frame as I was driving), but it leaked only when the car was "nose up"! Since they spilled the fresh oil, it looked clean on my driveway, and I thought I have a MAJOR leak!

No leak. The underside is bone dry now.
