Why is the shock an eye to pin on the front?

We've had the Britpart gas shockers on for a year or so and they've been fine.

Fronts have done about 15K and the rears about 30k.

Used the same Britpart Gas shocks on a previous TDi 300 and they were perfick - no troubles at all.

I had them on our TD5 & had to throw them away after 12 months / 10,000 miles as the ride was so bad!
Britpart springs are still ok though after 3 yrs

they are good shockers, and yellow bushes are generally fine but you can occasionally find the odd soft cheese one ,just return it and get it replaced, i see a lot of vehicles running very well on theses for years even on a fleet of defenders pulling max train weight

James beat me to it - I bet the shock absorber itself is fine. It looked like a polybush, or is it just yellow rubber? Do all the super gas ones have that fitment or can you choose?

Yes it comes with a poly bush pre-fitted, Island 4x4 were going to send me out a standard lower bushing but apparently this wouldn't fit the supergaz shocker so its going back for a refund.

Why is the shock an eye to pin on the front?

To make the attachment to the front axle easier for production purposes, keeps the height to the axle lower as well.

i have em on mine, been on for 12 months, no problems at all, you may have just got a bad one, happens in most things! return and get a refund or replacement,
