Every time I drive this b¥$€%#€$¥ thing there's an incident

Did a car boot sale this morning just pulling onto the field when this guy flags me down to tell me there's something hanging off under the front

I pull up to see the bottom hose dangling just as the last of the water was running out, it looks like it had just come off so I think I've got away with it

It's had a disco 300tdi engine put in it so the Bodge is a steel pipe to connect the bottom hose, the problem is there's no lip on either end to hold the jubilee clip on , something I'll have to look into swapping

Then I shut the door which has never lined up right and the pull disconnected so I can only open it through the window

Left it to cool until lunchtime then filled it with water , bled it and drove it home with one eye on the temp gauge and one in the mirror, luckily I have 3 eyes so I made it home ok

There's also a terrible vibration at 30-40mph that goes off at 50mph I thought it was the tyres but I've changed them and it's still there

Off-road it seems to have a lot of body roll so that's something else I'll have to look at but it's had new suspension

Was landrovers slogan every trip an adventure because this is at the moment

At least it was a nice day when I got back so I did the soft top with fabsil so it's waterproof ready for the summer

i can only speak from experience mines a 300tdi 110 and has been very reliable to be fair

That was well spotted. Hopefully the engine didn't get too hot.

The speed specific vibration might be a worn propshaft joint. Mine tend to cause vibration at around 50mph when they're getting tired.

A new jubilee clip will sort the hose, it doesn't necessarily need a lip to hold it on.
New tyres might not sort a vibration. Have you had the wheels balanced? Also check your UJs as they might need replacing.
Finally has it been lifted at all? As it will roll a little, especially if done badly. This can be sorted by fitting anti roll bars, removing the lift or replacing the springs with stiffer ones

The wheels and tyres were on the list to swap so I didn't do it because of the vibration , the tyres are new so were balanced when fitted

This next week isn't looking promising weather wise so I doubt much crawling around under it is going to happen but I might try taking the front prop and running it in diff lock off to see if it still vibrates

It needs a bracket making to support the metal pipe as I think it's bouncing about

This is a TD that's had a 300tdi disco conversion so the engine sits further back hence the different pipes etc

It's had new standard suspension, it seems more like it's rocking from side to side more than body roll so perhaps anti roll bars might help

Is there a way of checking the UJs, there doesn't seem to be any play in them

I have just had ujs replaced on the rear prop. If there is wear you will see movement when you move the joint.

I had similar happen to the Merc I had a couple of years ago. Just back from the garage with a new intercooler after hitting a fox (another story) and had driven from Croydon to Caithness to pick up my kids on Boxing Day evening. Loss of coolant which turned out to be the garage having not located the bottom pipe over the lip on the intercooler connection properly. Very lucky that my mate knew a couple of guys who had a workshop. They actually were working at 7.30pm and put it on the ramp for me and found the problem while I went and got some antifreeze. At the time I was not sure whether to laugh or cry.

There's definitely a vibration that you can drive through, as the wheels and tyres have been balanced I'll have to start looking at the prop

I'm wondering now if the cooling system has pressurised blowing the pipe off or whether it was just loose

I've since drained all the water , ran a 2 part cleaner through it and refilled with prestone 50/50

Did around 30 miles in it on Sunday without any problems but it does take a long time for the temp guage to get to normal 7-8 miles on a warm day plus the heater doesn't get very hot

Is there anything I should be looking at , thermostat I suppose , would a faulty thermostat cause it to pressurise

We are going to join the AA next month i do have faith in the 90 but being as we have only had the car since February going to billing next month will be the 90's first major run out for us and there will be at least 5 peep's in the 90 going there so rather be safe than sorry

Join the AA through a roadside patrol , I paid less than 1/2 what they wanted for the renewal

Plus if you join through the website or on the phone there's restrictions on the vehicle , they wouldn't cover my van but they did if I joined via a patrol

If it's just oh **** cover you need autoaid are worth looking at

It's a pay and claim service, £39 a year but that covers everything roadside , taking to your destination, home start , £200 with the AA
