Passed everything with flying colours apart from 1 double brake pipe clip on the rear axle. Half the clip was broke not holding the brake pipe secure. Ordered 10 to replace the rest of them. Looks like a retest Tuesday or Wednesday once the clips turn up.

tester sounds like a 'male member'. i'm pretty sure a zip tie would do to pass it and any decent mot tester would have noticed and just stuck one on.

It was a male tester, and yes you are right power crazy, I had a friend his Landrover failed on no water in the washer bottle, before you say he should have checked it yes he should have, but they lost a customer because of a pint of water.

Whilst I acknowledge your frustrations about the recent MoT failure, as they say "Rules is rules".

It's all a matter of exactly what condition the vehicle is in when it's presented for test. Strictly speaking, the tester could have filled the washer bottle for your mate, or put a tie-wrap on the brake pipe for you, but in both cases that would have constituted a "repair" resulting in a refusal to test (fail), the repair and then would have elicited a retest fee.
I have an arrangement with my MoT tester that he does repair and retest without consulting me everytime, and will do the repairs unless the prices start getting silly.

My tester would have failed it to get his fail quota up then fitted it/filled bottle free restest and pass.

If everything passes at an MOT place the authorities get nosey

use garages with free retests. they tend to be less fussy as failure for a clip would mean it has to come back in for retest and they would not be getting any extra money.
i get on really well with my local mot mechanic, he knows he is not getting the work and if something is a miss he just tells me to get it done knowing i will.
£40 for test but retest is free and no trying to get jobs.

I've had a couple of tests where it was failed, then passed 5 minutes later. One failed because I had forgotten to tighten the handbrake, he did the whole test, tightened the adjuster for me then gave me a pass certificate.
Also one very nice MOT bloke where at the start of the test he told me when he got to looking at the rear lights he was going to fail it because I was missing the reflectors. Gave me time to run to the LR parts place just down the road, buy some reflectors, and fit them just before he got round to checking the lights ;)
