Hey guys! I see loads of 90's for sale that have been involved in catagory D insurance claim? What are the implications of that?

The latest one i found says its cat D because of a rear door problem!

Ive goooogled it but cant fathom out whats what!

Cat D is basically uneconomical repair.
implications.
Some insurers dont want to know or will apply a hefty levy.
Not worth as much when you sell on (or when you buy)

Damn glad I opened this thread and read that comment.
I'm actively looking for a VW Polo Bluemotion as a work hack and the vehicles I've been looking at are Cat D as they're significantly cheaper. I was actually going to look at one in London the weekend.

Just rang my insurance company for a quote after reading your comment and have just found out that any saving on a Cat D purchase will be spent on a loaded premium!

My Feder was a Cat D write off, and I bought it back for next to nothing. athey paaid out the agreed amount and it cost me around a hundred quid to get it professionally rpaird and, MoT'd and VOSA checked.

My insurance wasn't, and hasn't been affected as I had NCP on it.

Cat d is fine i had a clio a few years back for the mrs that had hit a lampost
sold it no problem and did not need the mot test think that is for cat c
Although the only issue is even doing the work yourself it can cost as much as getting a tried tatty genuine one

Saying that is its cheap as chips and to be used as a mud plugger etc then why not
