Evening all,

I've just bought a 1995 m reg disco.

So far, so good two weeks in. A great drive with alot of boot space.

The point of the thread is that I'm unsure whether to heavily invest in it or not.....

I'm not very mechanically minded and should I be pouring money into it as its an old motor.... It's in 113 k and has a good few rust bubbles around and about, although it had the boot floor done and has a FSH.

In a few months I'll be moving out of London and will need to commute. Do you think this old lady can take the strain at her age? Or would you run it into the ground? Your thoughts please.

Dont spend a penny until you have googled and checked all of the known rust spots

Sills are looking a bit ratty, and general bits here and there. Nothing major-yet... Just passed an MOT so can't be that bad.....

Mine past a mot, dodgy Dave did the mot it's got holes everywhere, including next to seatbelt anchor, you can fit 4 fingers in the hole! seatbelt plug was missing too!

Think I've got all the common spots but gonna invest!:)

Just pointing out that a mot isn't always a sign of a solid motor.

Yes I agree. I suppose what I'm thinking is why are older defenders invested in long term but not the older discoverys?

Think he did mine too. Absolutely no idea how it passed its mot. Unless the 2 months between the mot and me purchasing it there was terribly bad acid rain storms etc.

What I'm trying to get at in the thread is will the discoverys ever attain immortality (if they are looked after) like our old friend the defender?

Surely there's a few people who want to create that rival icon within the discovery?

What long term failures will the discovery pick up that the defender won't?

No way would i use mine to commute far too thirsty and cumbersome
What a load of crap. I commute in my 110 and have used disco's for work vehicles forover 6years.
