same engine, so swap the alts over and see if that fixes it

From the readings you say you have no excitation feed to alternator. Check it tomorrow but have piece of wire ready to hove 12v to it direct to test it as you have been told already. I feel it will charge straight away if u do

i think really you are meant to run it via a lamp to create a load, but i think these alts design will work without it. :shrug:

Well finally,

After being unable to remove my alti off the defender ( 10mm bolt is tight on the bottom fixing, Doh yet another job, LOL) .

I decided to start swapping bits with the old broken alti, So I swapped the regulator. put it back in the disco and what do you know, I know Have an alti the gives voltage as soon as the engine fires up.
