i heard they are all pretty crap and send you miles oot yer way and tell you to do things liker u-turns on motorways. why, only today on yahoo noos its says some old trout was told to drive on a railway line by her sat nav. and being female she did.

There are head units that has built in sat Nav Ie can remember the model but it is a pioneer came out last year which can have a dvd player too and tv and god knows what else you connect to it. Oh yeah a playstaion as well.
Only know this due to a friend of mine having bought one. I would recomend that if you hate taking it all the portable sat nav out !!
Mind You I personally have a palm top with tomtom 5 on and also a memory map with it.
Now if you can be arsed with the taking off putting on I would suggest it.
I have the best of both worlds in one machine I use the tomtom to get to the destination, and then to do some laning the memory map tells me where i am exactly so you never get lost in theory!!!
The only reason I have gone for this was due to my set up worth £2500 got nicked and got a compensation of £100 pounds ummmm!!!

i dont know how much it would cost but definately stay away from main dealers, they will cost a fortune! i dont know how much for range rovers but when i bought my brand new bmw 530d in 2002, which has the same sat nav system, it cost me £2000, a bit of a rip off seen as how new disks are £235

I'd like to make another suggestion.....my car ICE is fairly simple.
I have a Pioneer DEH-P6800MP head unit in along with a Pioneer CD-BTB100 Bluetooth adapter for hands free mobile phone telephony and music streaming.
The true benefit of this system will come apparent in the next few years.
With Nokia's N95 smart mobile phone being launched in April this year, others will follow suit.
The reason I mention the Nokia N95 is that its the first mobile phone to have GPS and Map software built into it. This means that you can take your phone from car to car taking your SAT NAV system with you at all times making it a far better solution security wise than installing a £2000 SAT NAV solution only to be stolen by car thieves.
The Nokia N95 is also Bluetooth so it will connect to the Pioneer CD-BTB100 Bluetooth adapter which sits behind the main head unit out of sight of any car thieves. Being connected by the IP BUS connector which is now an in car ICE standard, all Bluetooth devices can be heard via all the speakers in the car.
I know there are RR purists out there and some of which I'm saying is sacrilege, but times have moved on.....why have a luxury car and continue to leave certain luxury accessories back in a time-warp.
