Afternoon all, hoping you can help me with a problem starting my td5 this morning. It has always started on the button until today, it started as normal then cut out and wouldn't restart. I then went through the purge process and it eventually started. I haven't run it out of fuel and there is over £100's worth in the tank at the moment. Any thoughts what would make this happen and if it is likely to re-occur?
I have been using it today and it has started every time.

Check for water in the fuel, a quick drain from the fuel filter sorted my TD5 when I had a similar problem.
I have since fitted a water sensor just a std LR fitment the wiring was already in place. Prices do vary from as little as £10:00 to £80:00 you take your pick, not able to recommend one I paid £23:00 for mine. I consider this as a backup and still drain the fuel filter regularly not waiting for the warning light to come on.

Thanks I'll take a look in the morning. It's got a warning light on dash for that but it wasn't on this morning (probably broken tbh).

Same issue this morning after being fine all day yesterday, will let you know what I find.

Ok, so no water in the filter, but have noticed diesel ****ing out when vehicle running, coming from above the tank, pump is working hard so assume sucking in air somewhere, also would explain the leak. Typical I will need to drop the tank when it is full of fuel !!!
Will do a search on here to try and find out if alternative to dropping tank.

Just to let anyone know who suffers the same Issue it is now sorted. After much umming and rrrrring we followed the dimensions given on a previous thread and put an inspection hole above the fuel pump. As soon as we had done this we could see one of the return pipes had come off the pump, quick and easy fix just took a fair while to get there. At least I can now get at the fuel pump when I need to!!!!
