i have bought a series 2a lightweight, i know the purists wont like it but its got a coiler chassis and a peugeot diesel engine.
does anyone know the car? it was built by the young offroaders in elswick, newcastle upon tyne in 1995, and then belonged to a gentleman in leeds circa 2010 before moving to kendal in cumbria, which is where i purchase it.
as it is already modified i have a few plans for it, but would like to know more about the vehicles history.

Sounds good. Be careful if you plan to go off road, engines from cars often don't have sealed timing cases or bellhousings and are not suitable for playing around in muddy water. Unfortunately I learned the hard way.......

looked a little ratty and sounded quite poor from what I remember, I know the lightweight though seen it a few times

it is a bit tatty, but it has a flip front and 90 screen and rear body. admittedly the engine does sound ropey but tell me of a peugeot engine of that type that doesnt.

Oh the poor thing :( it was on a lightweight screen last I saw it!

You going to change it back!? Also if I remember right the wheels look very far forward on it or that might be the other butchered lightweight in town, there's at least 3

sounds more like a 2A hybrid than a 2A lighweight hybrid?? tax exempt? or is that a private reg plate? 'C' plate?, also you may want to change your first post to read it was built pre 1996 not 'built in 1999'.. after 1996 it would have needed to be SVA'd and reregistered as you could no longer do that and you risk getting it crushed... may be a little late though there are quite a few on here who regularly report so called tax exempt landys that aren't as they seem... just check the vin/id for sale ongoing thread in the stolen landy section

Cheers Steve

its a 2a lightweight.

But it was registered 09/07/1965 ??? 3 years and 4 months before the first ever production lightweight was made?? hence the reason I assumed its a 2A, whats the vin start with (first 2 numbers)??

Cheers Steve

vin starts 2411 and ends with B
the chassis was modified not had a 90/range rover chassis fitted. originally a v8 converted in 2005 using a steve parker kit.

yeah its a 2A petrol .... lightweight vins are 236*** - 239***... but like I said your better off telling people built pre 96 ... i got sick of the questions with mine and accusations of ringer.... I ended up carrying a copy of the V5 showing the registered but built bit as it got reported so many times... some people have nothing better to do...

sounds a fun motor though.. so where are the pics :)

Cheers Steve

thanks for the info, its definitely a lightweight body. ive not seen a flip front before it makes engine access so easy. i'll post pics when ive dug it out for the 300tdi to go in, and when i can remember how the photo bucket thing works:eek:

I believe thier's a post on here from years ago with photos showing how to flip front a Series.

It may have had a series 2A body on before the lightweight? Body carries no points in the "points system" because of separate chassis.

yes all of em lol :) chassis must be original and unmodified to keep points or a brand new as original replacement
