Hi I have a 2.5dse would it make a difference if I was to move the gear box rad and change it for the gear box rad from a v8 and move it to where the v8 one is

No, but you could fit the fan from the later model if you are worried. However, unless you are towing in high temperatures it never comes on. There is an overheat sensor, if that does not operate there is no problem.

Ok cheers I wasn't worried about it getting hot I just think it's quite vulnerable where it is as I'm gonna use it for a bit of off-roading so wanted to move it

My personal view is that as the cooling system is already marginal, sticking any more hot stuff in front of the engine RAD is not a good idea. If you want to move it, mount it horizontally in the space behind the fuel filter and fit a fan blowing down through it.

That's a very good idea thanks for think il do that :) cheers

Just move it :) but keep it away from this sensor or your temperature inside will be showing 20+ when it's really only 7????

I'd leave it where it is and make a wading muff for the grill to add protection.
I would def' not put it in front of the engine rad'.

While your there I would recommend data's fan modification for the engine rad.

Why not??

mine has been there 2 years covered 50K and if anything it's better there, you can wire up the third fan to work with data's fan mod.

the oil from the gearbox is in much better condition now I have moved the rad, I've also retro fitted a dipstick for the gearbox :p

How would you account for that?
Plus it sounds from your other thread thike ypour engine or FIP is fecked.

beacuse the oil in the box used to come out dark red almost brown and now it comes out almost the same colour it went in?

yes, maybe but moving a gearbox cooler isn't going to f**k an FIP??

Why would moving the cooler account for that? the cooler works well in it's normal loactaion, it's in cool air with nothing hot near it, wheras in your new location it's got loads of hot stuff round it.
I never said moving the cooler would feck the FIP but black most likely will.

OE location has a metal plate behind it restricting airflow? and is a really small rad?

moving to the centre (where it should be) is in direct air flow, you can fit a bigger cooler and keep the fan and proof enough for me was the difference in the oil when I changed the oil and filter. Certainly will not be moving mine back?

I still have yet to hear why you think black will f**k the FIP

No metal plate behine the cooler on mine and it has a fan. Black contains corrosive elements as I said earlier.
