Be interesting to see if it has been "rebuilt" or is it just and old unit with a quick spray and a sticker ?

Mine seems quite stiff but will stick with it for the winter

it is new all the way down to loose bolts on the balance thingy metal work is too good to be old so it looks like just built badly maybe the wrong fluid inside

"Tested mine today and 4l of Castrols GTX at 1400mm took 55 seconds to horizontal . Not too bad ? Using my "bendy wand" torque wrench 100nm turned the hub through 45 degrees in about 20 seconds "

Mine is at 120k - shows some stiffness on full lock but no skipping/skidding or odd tyre wear - should be good in the snow !

Yer test put 4kg x 1.4m x 9.8 = 55Nm torque on the 32mm nut.
This will take longer to turn when compared to say 8kg x 1.2m x 9.8 = 94Nm which is a higher torque.
The higher the torque the faster it turns, but only up to a certain point.

update on this its been out in the garden for 4-5 weeks so what the hell carefully drilled a hole in the side once through it released a lot of pressure and still after 10mins air is being released
from what i have seen on videos the liquid silicon is clear
this is not far off black coming out of the unit making me think its a used one unless some one knows different
any fillings by drilling i was able to remove with a magnet once the pressure has been released i will try and turn it evan if i have to pump white spirit in but saying that the silicon is not stiff more a very thick oil

after 20 mins its still pumping out gunk is all i can describe it as

next step if it stops raining over the w/end is to grind off the weld with a cutting disc then weld up the hole i just made and then find some new silicon i think that will be the hard part

it does look like that
been reading up on the many threads on this for me its just a bit of fun seeing how it works and a big if it can be put back together again
but as from the start do you think its an old unit looking at the colour of the fluid remember it has never been used well it did half a mile dont go by the rusts thats me dragging it about

In my experiences, silicon oil does feel quite different to mineral oil. What does yours feel like Mr Clampett?

The original correct fluid is said to be clear. There was a chap on you tube who refilled his with the proper stuff, but can't find it at the moment. I will cut my old one open at some point and report back what I find.
