One of the headlight units on my facelift disco 2 is very misted. Done a bit of searching in here and google to try and remedy it. Has anyone found a sure fire way of sorting it? I'm looking at removal, drying it out, removing vents in the rear and re-fitting. It's the o/s light so the battery is behind it. What di I need to do to remove it?

If you can get to the head light bulb hole , hair dryer or stick with a rag the seal gas gone in the headlight causing condensation .

Removal of the headlight unit is covered in the owner's handbook (or RAVE if you don't have one).

Remove the front grille to reveal a small clip on the side of the unit. Unclip it to reveal a crosshead screw which must be removed along with the two crosshead screws on the top of the unit. Then "unhinge" the headlight unit completely to reach the connection plug.

Should take a couple of minutes or 22 seconds if a toe-rag does it!

Thanks for replies gents, I took a hair dryer to the outside of the unit and dried out the condensation. Took it for a spin too with headlights on to dry it out further. But, it soon came back! Bugger. It would appear there is a small amount of water in there.. I'm hoping this doesn't mean a new unit..

Nothing silicon can't cure get it out fill it up with a little water find leak bung up

That makes sense Is there not vent tubes in the rear did I read somewhere? Best bet is to take it off I think and have a good look at it..

Not sure about vent pipe if so the obviously check for blockage and leave . But usually its the glass seam .

As you'll be aware its a very common problem on facelift headlamps. LR revised the breather/vent on the later lamps which is supposed to make it much better. I'd suggest checking to see which lamps you have and whether they have the later vents or not - if not, the later vent is supposedly a simple unplug-plugin replacement.

Bit of an update. Removed the offending unit yesterday and set about removing bulbs etc and drying out. Used a combination of the wifes hairdryer and a de-humidifier we have. I also completely removed the three little breathers on the rear. I don't drive through rivers on way to work so should be ok for now. Took the opportunity to clean the unit up too. Stuck it back in this morning and so far it's spot on. Has been raining a bit too but all appears to be well. Will buy the modded breathers at a later date and fit..

Hi, to clear misting from the inside of the glass, get some insulation tape and tape up over the lense on the outside and then turn the light on, the heat inside the light clears the glass, but be careful not to leave it on too long as it will get hot, just keep an eye on it as you do it.
