I have recently bourt a 2nd hand turbo from eBay, as my old 1 led me to a runaway engine! Now after fitting this I have discovered that the oil intake pipe at the top of the turbo is slightly different to my old1, I mean my bolt on the end of the pipe is just slightly smaller than the threaded hole it needs to go in also I can see gaps around the bolt head on turbo when I screw it in, therefore resulting in oil leakage! Every thing else on the turbo fits great! An this is my only problem! On closer inspection I notice that this new (second hand) turbo has no nipple on the inside of the oil inlet hole like my old1 has for my inlet pipe to mate up to and also the hole is slightly too big and that the block that the oil runs through on the turbo (in between the fans) is different as my old1 is like a solid block but this 1 is like layered like a radiator or sumet also I have found that the front fan is slightly lose! Should it be? I have a 30 day guarantee so was wondering is this the turbo it was advertised as being? Is the fan ok with a bit of play? Can I get another bolt for end of my oil inlet pipe that will fit? I have a 1989 defender 2.5td engine, any help please

Not too easy to understand your post, try spacing it out a bit, and asking fewer questions in one go.
When you say fan, I assume you are talking about the turbocharger core, yes it should have a bit of play when stationary.
About the oil pipe, the threaded fititing must be a good fit or oil will **** out. It is possible the pipes changed during the production run, check wit parts suppliers to see if several pipes available? If not the turbo is worn, you might be able to get it helicoiled or an insert put in.
I hope you are sure it was turbocharger caused the runaway, there are a few reasons this can happen.

Local or national lr parts place will be able to tell yu if there are two pipes available.
You could try a local tractor or hydraulic hose place. They could probably make a pipe for you.

If it helps the turbo came with an restricter banjo bolt in the hole were the oil feed goes in! My original 1 never had 1 ?

Looked on eBay an these banjo bolts are noted for 200 an 300 tdi turbos? Could my turbo be a tdi 1 or could some1 have fitted this bolt to a td 1 an opened up the threads? How do I fit my pipe to the banjo bolt? Am I making sense lol

I don't know how much restriction m8 this is all new to me, but the 1 on eBay wich looks same as the bolt I got says 1mm hole to restrict oil flow to reduce smoke ect!

restricting oil to turbo wont reduce smoke ,thats down to wear ,restriction on outlet is a very poor thing ,can you put some pics up so we can see

I think if you say that to them they will tell you to go do one. You need to establish if the thread is damaged or not, it could look something like this:

If there is no sign of damage (see how there are ragged edges to the threads?), the thread sizes may be incompatable. The easiest way to check this is to use a thread gauge:

This will allow you to measure the threads to see if they are the same. You can purchase them in most tool/automotive/diy sort of shops and they aren't that expensive. Get one that does metric and imperial, it's a very useful tool to have when tinkering in the garage.

Once you establish what threads you have on the parts, along with the diameters, you can get the correct fittings sorted out.

This is what you should have on a 19j turbo. Maybe there are other variations, but this is what I have, and what I have seen on others.

if you cannot get the thread to seal,try using ptfe tape on the thread of the bolt.make sure it is oil resistant though.
