Now then, other than buying a new sun visor, has anyone any idea how to stop it flopping about in my defender?

That prevents me from using it at all though.

Couple of self tappers and keep a screwdriver to hand.
But given its a land rover you really should use gaffa tape and or cable ties!

Or you could try Velcro.

Blu tac in he "hingey" bit. Or just blue tac it to the roof-this probbably wont work.

Have you thought about using a very small jubilee clip through the visor and around the arm?

If it's the nearside one push it towards the nearside of the rail, if it's the offside one push it to the off side of the rail. Simples.
