Yes you will get a very good D3 for under 10k. I sold mine for 10k with 140,000 miles. I had the D3 for 2 years put a lot of miles up on it. I must say it was one of the most comfortable jeeps I have owned with all the power you could need and the 6 speed manual was smooth with an indicator on the dash telling you which gear you are in just incase you forget lol. The only problem I had and it happened a couple of times was the EPB (Handbrake)

The auto is so good I see no reason to have a manual, the auto is smooth and clean and just easier and more comfortable plus they have very few problems unlike the manuals which are known to have clutch problems

Gotta say... having put 8000 miles on a F2 auto over the last few months, I get back into my D3 and forget to change gear
It's so easy, sit there, right foot down, and sleep, errm, i mean relax.BUT... i'd still buy a manual every time.

There's something nice about manuals but having driven both I much prefer the auto gearbox, it seems more powerful and responsive too as it's always in the right gear and it changes quicker.
And you've got the tiptronic shift as we'll so if you want the manual control it's there JMHO

A was basic no say nav, usually cloth seats, se higher spec, sat nav leather seats, HSE premium sat nav, electric seats, sunroof etc

My dad had a disco 3 for 3 years. Was the SE and had sat nav, leather seats, heated front seats, upgraded sound system i think? The HSE models can have a fridge I know that much. I think the S has fabric seats and aren't heated, also dusbious to if they have sat nav as well.

We'd send it away to be fixed at land rover but it'd be ballsed again within a week. I've heard of a couple of other people having problems, not sure how generic a problem it is and what the solution ended up being but worth baring in mind.

D3's one of the best land rovers I've ever owned
Never had a d2 so can't comment
Defenders need baby sitting every second of the day and night
lovely cars but a pain in the arse to own due to high demand for stolen parts
Mines a 2004 SE with120k cambelt done at 90k no problems with electrics or handbrake ( says very nervously) get one best thing you will ever do

I'm the same... hate commenting on the current lack of issues i've had on my D3... just don't want to tempt fate.
Although, that said, having just had it back from the garage, having had a lot of work done in prep for Morocco, I pulled into the Overland Show on Friday to be told that I had a headlight out
Apparently, before the hand brake goes, you get funny noises when it engages - if you get this sound it is worth pulling the fuse on it and just leave it in gear when parking.
Although, there's the emergency pull chord if it all goes wrong.
Biggest problem I have with mine is people's draw to park next to me in car parks - no matter how far away I park from the entrance, and then proceed to open their door into me, hit my bumper as they drive off, scratch bags down the side, etc.

Sorry Nigel should I have said the most comfortable jeep I've opened so far. But as I am currently after a defender I'm thinking it ain't gonna be as comfortable as a disco 3 am I wrong lol

I have a Defender and a Discovery 3. Different beasts for different jobs. Both work horses though. The D3 is a 2005 model and I bought it in 2007 with 18k on the clock. its now done 112k. I've had the belts changed and a new dual mass flywheel that has transformed the old girl. In the early years of ownership there were a few electrical / handbrake niggles but they were soon resolved. It is the most comfortable car to drive I've ever owned and although not exactly economical I regularly get 32 -33 mpg on a long motorway drive. I can get in it and drive 6-7 hours non stop without getting back ache or tired.
I've recently experienced a couple of minor mechanical issues resulting in the replacement of a front wheel bearing and a corroded rear brake pipe. I'm expecting to have to replace a few bits for the next MOT but nothing you wouldn't expect in a car of similar age (although probably a bit more expensive).
As for load carrying - my wife and three of her friends have borrowed it for a girls golfing weekend so you can imagine the luggage and their golf clubs etc! With the seats down it is cavernous!
On a short journey I still use the Defender though as it brings a grin to my face that the Disco doesn't.

Well my Discovery 3 i have had a Gear box issue and a Handbrake issue it has 86k on the cloak a 2.7 HSE. Handbrake fault was issues when i couldnt take the handbrake off then it would let me, but in the end got stuck on. Drove it back slightly and off it popped. Took it to the workshop they had a look and a total of £30 sorted (just needed adjustment etc)
Then as for gear box, kept dropping out of drive when driving along, once again workshop, they had a look total cost £48 and it was just a seazed bush within the gearbox selector and now she runs 100% PERFECT lovely carlovely to drive just needs a bit of TLC sometimes but as long as you take it to a place who knows there stuff but its Landrover HQ it wont cost you a fortune (ive found)
All in All Had few audi's landrover discovery etc and the landy for a everyday car with kids or you need space there PERFECT
