Raider td5

My 2001 Defender Tomb Raider has very poor headlights for quite some time now. It also came with 4 roof mounted Hella lights which are very weak now and are getting weaker with time.

The top lights had a voltage sensitive switch in their circuit which kept them from working when the engine is not running; this switch malfunctioned quite some time ago and it was not available here so I bypassed it and the lights worked just fine after that.

I miss the uber bright top lights and I want decent headlights so I have decided to fix this problem. I would really like it if some has the schematics for head lights and for top lights which came fitted from factory.

Any help is welcome!!

Also,

How can I find the problem? I am an experienced diyer and I do have a multimeter but not very experienced with using it.

Bad earths and corroded bullet connectors and possibly burnt headlight plugs

If you carefully remove headlight mount (careful not to alter adjusters) td5 defender headlight bowls have opening at back-unlike early models.

So, where are the earths and the bullet connectors?

Behind the lights.
Earths bolted to wing in vicinity of bullet connectors on my 90.
Be aware that the triangular multi bullet connectors get loose or corroded.
Head light lamp plugs burn out but less than £5

Right.

And what could be wrong with the top lights?

No one has wiring schematics for the head and the top lights?

if they come on on main beam the trigger wire for relay will be linked into high beam (no relay and switch will burn out).

look at light wiring and possibly scotch locks

The relay for the top lights is still there, I only bypassed the voltage sensitive switch.

Follow the wiring from the lights you will find relay- I can't tell you where it is- as i don't know.
Behind clocks or in fusebox, seat box or bulk head prime places
