It's a 2.5 land rover engine... that to me says 200tdi or 2.5NA... but from that angle my engine knowledge is not good enough to be able to work it out... i'm guessing it is the 2.5NA but...

that looks suspiciously similar to my 12j 2.5NA, albeit without a pump (power steering or air con?- situated by the front left mount) mine has. Can't see a turbo on it to suggest a 19j. The green paint obviously suggests military, making the 2.5NA more likely. I think the fact the whole engine isn't painted means it hasn't been reconditioned, but has had new parts, so potentially could be leggy?

My vote is its a 2.5 n/a. They are the common engine the mod are getting rid of across the board.

The black breather gave it away as well, never seen them on any other engines besides the mod ones

Yeah, wasn't a good angle, but, i didn't take the pic!

they are for sale at withams - re-con'd on auction, but a 2.5na is no use to be

Surely they wouldn't still have 10j's kicking about would they? (plus it's listed as 2.5) also, before anyone else bothers, i checked all the piccys off the current withams tender, and unsurprisingly no tdi's (at least so far as i can tell!) so don't waste your time! few lots of spares, but i assume some company or other will snap them all up!

I dont see why not, withams are still selling Series 3's and I wouldn't trust a listing of 2.5 without some other evidence myself

Fairynuff! I've only seen what's on the website and maybe the odd lightweight excepted i haven't noticed any s3's. Tbh i'll take your word for it though, i can never afford anything they have so tend not to look too often!

Didn't see a single s3when I was at withams. Blanchards though have loads.
That to me looks like a 2.5na. I am dubious of the 'take out' engines. They were probably taken out for a reason……

Withams are robbing bastards

It's a tender - you put in your price you want to pay -i've had some great bargains in the past, and then somethings go for silly money. Can't see how they can be "robbing bastards" when you choose the price you're willing to pay for the good?

I don't have any intention on buying an engine -i agree it would be dubious, you'd need to get them for a very good price if they were "sold as seen" - they just caught my attention and i couldn't tell if they were tdi's or not.

Is that just for parts or for anything? My reason for calling them robbing barstewards is that they buy army land rover 110s and defenders for ridiculously cheap and sell them on for a huge profit. Last I saw they were selling them for something like 4500.

We had three 110s leave us a good few months ago. These were immaculate, and I can't stress that enough. Look underneath and almost everything was brand new, brand spanking clean. Engines and gearboxes were perfect, body work was perfect. Basically they had been fully refurbished and reconditioned then never used. The price the MOD sold them to Withams for? £1750 each.

I thought the majority of the one's on auction lately have been take-out engines meaning they are yet to be re-manufactured again, I think. Saw a re-manufactured one on auction for around £1k not long ago! Not sure if it sold tho.

Ah ok, yeah they do direct sales, small auctions then once every month or two a big 700+ item tender list.

I only ever go with the tender list, you're right though, the for sale prices are stupid.

I always thought they charged a fee to the army, didn't realise they actually bought then re-sold.
