One reason for buying a 4x4 is do do some work on my land, just chain harrowing for now. Quads tend to get stolen a lot around here (pikey cocklers) and I didn't want to go to the expense of a tractor for what little use it would have.

I've just read a few threads about PTOs for hydraulic winches and I know some early Land Rovers had PTOs for farm machinery. Is it possible to fit one to a Discovery? Self powered movers and balers are very expensive.

Pretty sure you have to cut a hole in the rear footwell to get the pto onto the transfer box, then clear the way to the back of the car (move the fuel tank) if I remember right.

If you did it, would be better to fit a hand throttle to keep you steady as the bumps would make it iratic .

I'll file that under daft ideas then. Hopefully there will be a vintage tractor cheap enough at Flookburgh Steam, then next year I can get in for free.

You can get a good little tractor for about a grand which it would easily cost you to get it converted. It would be alot easier on an old 90 or series
