Spotted something amiss...

That'll be why the cruise control does'nee work then!

It's one of the few things that didn't work when I got it and as I don't do much distance M/way driving it's not really important, but may as well fix it. No sign of the missing vacuum hose so a bit of RAVE reading tonight I think to determine where the hose should go. :scratching_chin:

Thanks - that kinda makes sense if it runs back to a control valve somewhere. There's a click under the dash (driver's side) when CC is on and you press set, but that's it. I'll have a better look around tomorrow and see if I can find where the other end should be - confess I hadn't looked far, but at least now I know where to look!

Would they run a vacuum tube that far? I assumed there'd be a valve in the engine bay somewhere and wiring back to control unit, brake switch etc? Intrigued now so going to have to start reading...

If they wanted to cancel CC when the brake was pressed (which they do) then they would have to. There is a valve on the brake switch that releases the vacuum to cancel CC.

Ah ok, that must be the missing hose then - will have a look tomorrow and see if I can reconnect. Might work then - although doubt it will be that simple

I take your point about needing the valve to drop the vacuum, but thought it would be long wires+short vacuum hose rather than long hose. From a failsafe viewpoint however a valve on pedal makes more sense I guess...

It's a mechanical fail-safe so the CC still gets cancelled should the brake light switch fail.

Yours is a diesel is it not? No vac on diesels, just a double acting switch that makes brake lamps and breaks CC.

Cruise control on the diesel is done by the engine ECU. Press cruise button on left side of dash. Then when you get over about 26/28 mph press L/H cruise button on steering wheel. Car will maintain that speed. Until you press brake to disengage it.Car speed will increase by 1 mph every time you press steering wheel cruise button. If you are say doing 50 mph on cruise and you have to slow, touching brake will disengage it, then providing you have not slowed to below minimum cruise speed 26/28 mph. If you press resume button on R/H side of steering wheel car will go back to 50 mph cruise automatically. If you drop below minimum cruise speed you would have to select again on reaching your chosen speed.
