I need a new car so I have been looking at a P38 as a replacement. I like the idea of room, leather and aircon. My wife has been listening intently as I have described the list of faults found despite asking about them when arranging a viewing.

Anyhow over the weekend it has finally come out that she is quite scared by the thought of driving a Rangie so I have put my plans on hold at the moment. I don't know what to do. A friend has a new look disco so its about the same size as a P38. would it be an idea to see if I can get her to have a drive in this or should I give up and try to persuade her that a Freelander would work.

Has anyone else had a similar problem?

yes bought a rangie when she was with me and sat in and tried it... got it home n she then wouldnt drive it (it was a car for her) not chuffed but cant force her to drive if not happy, she was far happier in the freebie i bought for her afterwards

doesn't help that it is a hardtop and so it's a bugger to pull out on certain junctions.

Mines driven the D3 commercial, the D1, the series... the Spitfire... she drove around in a D2 for a year too.

My missus didn't like the size of the disco or the V8 engine! Long story short I have an empty bed and a V8 disco on the drive!

Mine loves the Td5, how the clutch is heavy and lack of feel on the throttle (all helped with her learning to drive)

We tried smaller cars various 106s, Rover 200's, 306 even my MR2 but it comes back that she prefers the Td5 even got me to the stage where I agreed to buy her a P38 if she, I mean when she passes her test.

She has her eye on a black 4.6 HSE, althou she wants a manual so more likly to be diesel unless one of them rare 4l manual V8s turn up.

my dorris loves the disco, all winter it was like trying to pull teeth trying to get the bastard back to have a play myself, she says she likes the fact that with the HD winch bumper, rock sliders and rear HD bumper tied in with lifted suspension and big F/O MTs on it everybody was giving way to her a lot more

but then she has always had a "get out of my way" approach to driving, she cost me fortune when i had the old E38 BMW as she scratched it more than once

Mines usually nervous of new vehicles but few minutes on a quiet road and she is fine, just a confidence thing.
Now got 110 with no power steering and she is still keen to try it.
Dont want her TOO keen to drive as at the moment she is happy wire brushing chassis, rubbing down the body (on 110 not me and gonna get her lapping in the valves while she is still keen to work on it...happy days

On behalf of the female half of the population I wish to apologise for the fact that wussy women exist.

[ really don't get how it's so difficult or different driving a bigger vehicle. The only issue I have ever had is the clutch is a heavy old bastard and I do struggle when I m wearing girl clothes to get in the beast .

Get her in and driving it on a quiet estate and tell her to grow a pair and stop letting down womankind.

I must have an amazing missus and nan then my nan actually encourages me to buy more landys and modify them while my missus wont drive them because she cant reach the peddles properly on the disco she about 5ft 2 the 2a is a mans toy and she don't like the fact no power steering or any comfort and she is scared of the rest of the fleet she says they are to imposing so happy days on land rover motoring here whoo (the first time I took her out in my 2a there was snow on the ground and we was going down the road I said warning veered off the road without stopping straight down a dip and on to a farm track she went nuts am I still alive she was saying not been in the 2a since)

Actualy measured my 110 the otherday when compared to my parents Citroen Berlingo thingy, length, 110 is only a tad longer (4600 compared to 4400) width is actually narrower, 1790 compared with 1810 ok, its quite a bit taller, and LOOKs bigger with its slab sides, non of the rounded off guff, but I find the Fender easier to drive because of this, no sticky out bumpers you cant see to whallop on stuff.

The wife wants a 90, and my mum learnt to drive in my dads Series 2 in '84

My wife drives my D3 like a loon. The fuel economy drops from a respectable 30 -32 mpg to less than 28 mpgwhen she's used it for a week. She loves her SLK 200 but won't drive my '74 Elan as its to temperamental. She won't drive the 110 as she reckons its not lady like trying to climb into it! She begrudgingly travels as a passenger. My mum was brought up on a farm and has no fear driving anything - she learnt to drive in a Rover 110 which is probably bigger than the 110. She's in her 70's and has only just got rid of the Subaru Impreza for something more economical. her favourite cars were my dads old V8 SDI & his early D1.

My daughter lives in Oz and can't wait to get her hands on the D3 when she visits this summer now she's over 25 and I can get her insured. She's itching to get her hands on her father in laws '74 Torino convertible which I've had the pleasure of driving.

just to annoy some greeny types a year or so ago I did some research (didnt take long) and the V8 discovery put out less CO2/km than the basic porshe boxter that shut em up

my fender does the same "damage" than the Kia I had before it, on a cradle to grave basis much much less, I cant see my old kia being around at 17 years old
