+1 on the 2.25 alternator-modified harness for a IIA. Toook my 109 from a Diesel to a petrol engine long ago and that was part of the job - replacing the harness which was very, very tired. The wiring for a V8 is not dissimilar especially if non-EFI.
Any added devices can then be fitted onto the stock harness, and done neatly.
One thing I recommend to anyone doing things like this is to print a large format copy of the schematic and sketch in the additions you make to the wiring - this will make your life so much easier a few years from now when the accessory blows a fuse and you have to go into diagnostic mode.
An old harness is just not worth fighting with - it is way too infested with Lucas gremlins. OEM smoke for recharging it is just too damn expensive.
