After tryng to make my damned heater work over the past few week, I have come to the conclusion that I have a water leak. I have run out of the five litres of antifreeze that i bought, implying that i have put 10 litres of cooland into and enginge that holds 6.5 litres.

Obviously there must be a leak somewhere, but theres never anything on the floor under the car. The carpet in the foots wells is not wet either.

Where are the most common places that TD4s spring coolant leaks.

If it help, there appears to be air in the top radiator hose, the FBH hoses and the heater matrix.

Thanks

Mine turned out to have a leaking hose. It was not making puddles on the floor and nothing was visible at idle, but when someone held the revs up over 2k, there was a small leak from a wee hose that was pouring down onto the sump guard and running off the back edge of it. It was obviously just dispersing onto the road as I drove.
In this case it was the wee L-shaped hose at the front of the engine tucked up under the plastic inlet manifold. Tricky to get at and it is a silly thing with a moulded quick-release clip so dealer part only. I bodged mine with an old coolant hose robbed from a scrapped Hanomag lying in the farm yard which was near enough the right shape.

how often are you topping up ?

possible its a pin hole leak somewhere, and only under full pressure

, i have found leaks in the past when its dark with the aid of a torch seems easier to spot them,

td4,, leaks i have found on mine , 1, thermostat casing
2, header tank cap, 3, oilcooler,

you also have a cooler on the ird, good luck let us know how you get on
