Anyone install air conditioning to their series 3? What did you use and how effective is it?

you want air con in a old vehicle like that? you need to go and buy a p38..... you dont need air con in a series fookin cold enough as it is lol :drum:

As the Dr says... it comes as standard... and works well.

You can also get other original air con kits including rag tops, simply taking the roof off and for the really crazy fools... fold the windscreen down

Ignoring all the unhelpful replies above. What country are you in? If you are in the UK I'd say it isn't worth the cost and hassle. And as others have alluded too, it's not as if a Series Landy is draft free anyhow, and you do have the large vents below the windscreen.

If you are in hotter climes, then air con might be a more sensible choice. Essentially it's perfectly possible to fit it, either a complete custom setup, or using bits from other Landy's (Td5 Defenders could have air con).

You'll need to make room for the condenser and you'll need a compressor and some way of driving it. Plus the plumbing.

If you have a stock Series engine, then air con will likely sap a lot of power and ruin the already poor mpg. Even Tdi's don't like running air con without a serious affect on performance. So you may need to consider bigger plan to truly make this work.

All series Landies come with full climate control as standard.
In my series three I freeze in winter, bake in summer. and get wet when it rains. What more do you want ?

you also get in car weather, when it snows snow flakes fall from the roof and icicles appear

LOL First time iv'e seen a request for air con in a series.
Soft top off = good day in summer.
Soft top frozen = cold day in winter.
Close vents & windows to reduce draughts.

Thanks guys for the info. I'll certainly keep it for the next project, but I have decided not on to restore a series 3. It's a necessary vehicle, but I want something bigger. Thinking of either a 2 door 110 project or a 2 door range rover classic.

I might use your advice for either of those projects.

I fitted air con to my two door Range Rover and it's great.
In the summer having cool air blowing on my face is very nice.
If you can find a 4 door RR classic with air con then fit that along with the dash in to a two door RR.
