If it about 5 degrees or less and especially if it's an auto - then it's normal.
The auto box hold low gears in an attempt to warm up a bit quicker.
Lots of autos do this - the answer is just to take it easy for a mile or so and forget about it.
I find cleaning the fuel rail pressure sensor plug and contacts helps if mine does this.
Hi SV,
I think he means on start-up, mine's the same on first start-up it's like the engine is firing on 3 cylinders for a few seconds then it's all fine. It's just those few seconds with mine.
If that's the case - then it likely to be either faulty glow plug/s or not waiting for the glow-plug light to go out - ie turning the key too quickly.
Easy to forget.
Thanks everyone for your advice, I wait until the light has gone out then I start it.
I'll change the plugs and see if that makes a difference!

Yep the fuel pressure sensor is the one on the end of the fuel rail.
Well tried cleaning the sensor plug and contacts also cleaned the plug and contacts on top of the injectors, but it still starts the same first thing. Looks like it going to be the glow plugs.
Just for a couple of seconds the engine sounds like it's firing on three cylinders then bursts into life and then starts fine all day after the first start.
