Jesus you're thick. Put the key in the ignition on a car with the coil and watch the LED on the Friggin Fob Flash as it sends the code to the RF. Take aerial wire off on later cars and it doesn't always work, likewise if the receiver is picking up crap it doesn't work. All it does is replace a push of the FOB button. You can chuck the coil away and still resync by pressing a button.
The other reason later cars have less problem is because they have the MK2 receiver.

Yes data I'm a 4x4 plank and my battery is still fine scare Monger:rolleyes:

At least I'm not misleading folk, if i were a mod I'd ban you as a danger to P38's:fighting:

ok saint but I don't know of any late diesels that do its always the petrols yes

It is the same system and I've had the problem. A late 1999 derv.
Does that mean I'm special?
As Bix says the system is the same....

As for BeCM and Engine ECU sync, the petrol models are more prone to losing sync than the Diesel model for an unknown reason....but that is the ECU Sync and not the Key Fob Sync issue we have been discussing....

Wow this has been interesting at the least...... One good point of view it was a test vehicle for what not to do for the rest of the auto industry. Just can not believe how touchy they are with stray RF

Lots of vehicles have or have had the same problem including Honda's Fireblade. We got stuck in Spain when we stopped on the forecourt of what turned out to be a taxi office, Bloody bike would not start. Pushed it 100 yards down the road and bingo away it went.:)

The petrol modes are more prone to loss of sync because the code rolls like the FOB, On the diesel the BECM to EDC code is fixed, at least that's what I've been told by a usually reliable source.

Call Sussex the sticks? It must be among the most heavily populated area's in Europe outside of towns and cities.
Last place I lived in the UK was Sussex, West Chiltington to be precise.
