I have just rescued a 1988 Range Rover Vogue SE out of some woods before it got scrapped, there is this button to the left of the dash next to the passenger seat.

The car has a mechanical center diff and a 4 speed auto.

I'm confused

Could it have factory fit axle diff lock?

The Rangy is not running yet so can't push it to test.

The picture would suggest it's a centre diff lock.

Just a warning lamp...

When you push the Ratio lever to the Diff Lock Position, this lamp illuminates to inform you it is diff locked....upon lever back to unlocked...if this lamp remains illuminated, you have transmission wind up and will need to be unwound by reversing a few yards....

Not investigated but looks like a button, Rangy at work so will prod it tomorrow and check its a button. Never thought of it being just a light.
