hi there we have had the p38 for a few months now and its always been slow very slow it will rev when sat still but just has no get up and go today we were out in it and it was down to 30 mph up hill with no chance of getting any more out of it . i have changed the fuel filter and the air filter is clean .it is a 1996 so no maf sensor or egr it has a tuning box on it its not a plug in thing but hard wired so not so easy to just unplug to try it . also fuel economy is shockingly bad at 17 mpg not expecting to much from it but would of liked it in the 20s.can anyone suggest what to do next its starting to annoy me now

thanks Paul

Check the pipe from the manifold to the MAP sensor on the fuel filter housing for splits/leaks and blockages.
Check the in tank pump is working.
Check the turbo pipes have not delaminated internally.
Also check the injector leak of pipes, won't affect performance but will affect consumption i they are leaking.
Mine averages 24mpg and close to 30 on a long run.:)

thanks for the reply the car has no pipes going from the inlet manifold to the fuel filter its a old 1996 so has no egr etc i have had the manifold off to fit new heater plugs and checked all the hoses and all good if i squeeze the hose to the manifold and someone revs it up the pipe goes hard so its building boost. all leak off pipes are good the engine seams in good health and was changed about 70,000 ago by the dealers according to the service records

There should be a small pipe from the underside of the manifold to a sensor mounted on the front of the fuel filter housing. This is the Manifold Absolute Pressure Sensor. Without it, the ECU limits the power to prevent over boost.

Download RAVE the LR workshop manual and it will show you the pipe and sensor, look in the how to section for a link to the download.

wow i have just been out and had a look no pipe on the car but found the small take off on the manifold and where it goes to so got a peice of leak off pipe fitted that took it round the block and my goodness she is a ferrari now thanks very much just got to sort out the leaking rear airbags now ordered them from island 4x4 so should be here in a couple of days hope thats all it is on the suspension

If you need the EAS software and cable, you will not beat my price and you get a copy of RAVE and my airbag replacement guide all on a CD.:)
If the rear airbags need replacing, the fronts will also need doing, they have a design life of 70/80K miles & 7 years. If the bags have been leaking for a long time the compressor may also need an overhaul.

so if my bags are original they are way past it 220,000 miles and 13 years old will change the rears when they come see if that cures the aes fault and the sagging rear everytime its parked up . thanks for the help if i need the software i will pm you for a price

well just been out in it again reset the mpg trip and after doing about 15 miles flying along we went up the same hill we did this morning where it struggled to do 30 mph we were doing 60 and the trip when we got home 21 mpg and climbing very happy now
