right lads i need help asap i have very lil boost ive changed:

spill off pipes
lift pump diesel filter air filter (full service)
all inter-cooler hoses
flushed inter-cooler and inlet manifold out with petrol
changed the hose from the turbo to waist gate and the one from turbo to pump
manifold gasket
turbo has very lil play

i did all this and had a day or so of running sweet and my mpg went up massively but now its crap just under a 1/4 of a tank to 50miles

i used to feel the turbo kick in just under 2k but now i get nothing, it will still build up speed and starts fine but i did notice a sucking sound coming from the back as i hit 2k rpm so i thought in tank pump is on its way out but i removed the carpets and mats but cant access the pump, the inspection plate bolts or nuts are so rusted i cant see what they were and i need to get them off so whats the safest way to remove them and does anyone have any pics so i can see whats on the inside.
i left the mat and carpet up as i needed to get to work and while on my way to work at 2k rpm 2nd gear up a hill it sounded like i had a turbo fitted in the boot the sucking sound was really bad so i know something isnt right in there. so the boost is fine its just not getting the diesel to power it.
i'm planning on going to leeds tomorrow so i need to sort this fast. i dont want to drill as i've never seen the other side and dont want to hit anything important and as for grinding ??? not so sure being that close to the tank as its got to be leaking for the amount of diesel i'm using

i used a grinderette on mine..

they only 6 little screws and they go into little plastic square plugs in the floor...

just grind heads off, take plate off, then you can get to the threded bit with a pair of pliers..

just make sure replacement screws aint too long when ya put it all back together..

No pump in tank on D1, sounds like could be a split feed pipe at the tank union maybe.

its a 94 disco 300tdi ive found the pumps on ebay for a disco 1 or does the lift pump shift the diesel in and out the engine on these ?

mines a 97, no pump in tank...

nothing attached to underside of cover plate...

just gring heads off the screws n lift it off...

ok will do at 7am when i get back from work,(lucky neighbors) is the sender unit in their ?

Same as mine, lift pump goes on side of engine and is mechanical. As others say, just grind screw heads off and lift the plate. If its using way to much fuel at the same time as lacking power then the fuel return pipe could be fubarred as well.

Have you cleaned the sedimentor lately?

its bypassed something else to fix later lol i'll grind screws off tomorrow its defo coming from the boot as it got 3times as loud when i left the carpet and mats up im hoping its just a split pipe that feeds the pump

Something strange here,I cannot see how you could possibly hear air being sucked in a fuel line in the boot with the engine running-are you sure you are not hearing an exhaust leak?
If you fit clear pipe between lift pump outlet and filter inlet, look for bubbles of air-if there are any you need to find where it is getting in and fix it.
Are you sure your turbo hoses aren't collapsing?

plate gives access to top of tank and fuel lines..

on mine the metal tubes comin out of sender were porous they were so rusty..

theres a big plastic nut that holds sender in place.. clean around it before removing as all the crap will fall in tank.. before a move anything check the pipes, mine were wet.

get new sender, then remove old one..

the union on mine between the plastic and metal lines were a tw@t to undo.. i snapped em off at sender end so i could get ring spanners on and a small stilson..

all hoses are upgraded and brand new, i've checked twice now and for the amount of air i can hear being sucked the hold would be quite big. the exhaust is quite new with no rust

thats what i think the problem is, they might have rusted so bad and cracked so when i get to 2k rpm and put my foot down the turbo feeds the diesel pump and tries to push more fuel in but the crack at the sender is just sucking in air and thats what i think the sucking noise is
well its a theory

its getting to the point where every time i go out in it i have to mess with it to get it home, i'v even started walking to the shops again now lol

mine wouldnt rev to 3000..

tried everything, filters, pipes, sedimenter..

but was the pipes from sender...

Looks like I was right

Yeah very common prob on sender pipes same happened for me. Fitted new sender unit and replaced all fuel lines with clear beer lines so i can see at a glance if any air in the fuel system oh bypassed the sedimenter at the same time

Quick fix and its got me to Leeds 150 mile trip
I got the glue gun out lol
