I have decided to fit 235/65/17 tyres to my wifes freelander.

Just got one fitted to the spare to offer it up and see what is needed. Will do that once she is back from shops and soft play.

Car is standard 2003 TD4 Kalahari.

I suspect 30mm spacers and 2" lift kit will be required!

Anyone else fitted stupidly big tyres to freelander ?
 
Now now. that's harsh.

I'd say I was bi as I have had defenders prior to freelander and looking for 110 for me just now !
 
DD has 225/75/16 fitted to his, on modulars with a 2" lift. Looks very beefy. Mine are 215/70 but they are noticably bigger than standard :).

awesome so it now looks like a cross dressers car instead of hair dresser ?

If my maths are right its its same size as 225/75/16 +/- 2mm but 16" alloys have different offset than 17" ???
 
235/55 17" is as big as you can safely fit without having clearance problems on hard cornering or braking.

235/55s give a clearance between the tyre tread edge and the spring cup of around 7mm.

I would doubt that you will have any clearance at all with these bigger tyres. You may not be able to get them on at all without spacers and longer studs and / or a 2" lift.

Beware your Insurance Co if you fit spacers and the 65 profile tyres. They always look for reasons to throw out claims especially if the vehicle looks non standard - which yours will.

You are also going to have to watch the speed as your speedo will be reading around 8.5% low. So an indicated 60mph would really be 65.

I checked my 235/55 against my sat-nav and it's just about spot on.

I fully expect to need spacers and a lift. As I did use the forum search tool and see it had been covered before.

Its not a case of if they will fit its a case of how.

40mm is max without modifying the chassis where the steering arms go through and you need crash pins etc etc.
 
235/65/15 with a 2" lift :) i need spacers though prob gonna get 30mm! anybody know the best place to get them?
 
How does it look in relation to the wheel arches? Good to know this BTW. I have 235/55's on mine an I likes them.
 
Its a standard freelander and its on the deck.

The tyres are tapered though so the actual tread area is only about 190mm.

Do you think you could fit these with the spacers - obv, but without the lift kit or are they gonna just rub on the arches?
