Hello,

I would be grateful for any advise on a peculiar electrical problem recently developed by my 1997 Disco 300tdi Prestiege. It all started after a paticularly wet drive home. When I turned the lights off the tail and instrument lights went off but the dip headlamps remained on. I disconnected the battery and on reconnecting it in the morning all was back to normal. Two days later whilst pressure washing, with the ignition turned off, on goes dip beam. Now, I thought that was spookey but now it only takes a night of rain to wake up with the lights shining at me. I am sure the fans of Sweedish cars would applaud such a concientious attitude to saftey but I am getting fed up of waking to a flat battery. Sometimes, for variation, the tail and intrument lights join the party.

Any ideas please as I don't know where to start on this one?

Carl.

This could be a job for WD40, and I don't say that often.

As has been said, get into your fuse box and relays. I'm assuming that, as you drive a Disco, you won't own a hair drier, so either gently with an airline or go-for-it with a can of
Water Dispersant formula number 40.

:flame2:
No seriously, it's what the stuff was originally made for - good luck.

Wasn't it designed originally by the aircraft industry, to disperse water from wings so they didn't ice-up?

They claim that it was originally developed to stop corrosion on the old Atlas missiles. The thinking was if they could get rid of the moisture then corrosion wouldn't happen.

Thanks for the advise. I pulled of the passenger footwell sidepanel and found a trickle of water and corrosion in a large connector block. A liberal application of WD40 to the connector and even more generous application of silicone to the top of the screen and we will see how it goes. Not sure whether I will be able to sleep tonight with the excitement over finding out whether it works.

Will report back in the morning.

No rain last night so still waiting to see whether I have cured it. Suppose I could drag out the pressure washer but two washes in one year could be deemed to be pampering
