What do i check first?

Just got myself a few days back a TD5 110 on an 04 plate 57K on the clock.

I have an occasional starting failure in that turn the key, hear a click but no turn over, try a few seconds later it turns over.

Anyone had similar issues?

I dont know the vehicle yet as only had it a few days so need a steer on what to check first.

Same happended to mine not long after buying it at 54K

Turned out to be the solinoid contacts had worn out - bit fidely to replace with started in-situ but do able!

Think this was the set I got and still running strong at 89K:

Yeah got the same issue with mine, 200 tdi, will turn over on the first turn for a few days, then it will take several attempts, starts ok in the end, but i dont get a click when you turn the key ! I was wondering if it was the ignition???

Is it a starter motor click

My jimny (yeah I know) used to do that and eventually it broke down in the middle of nowhere and I had to bump start it in reverse down a hill. Drove straight home and bought a new starter motor (doubled it's value)

While you got starter off, open It up and make sure carbon blocks are not stuck, crap can get inside and stop them making proper contact.
