hello people I'm seeking some wiring advice, as you may no i am in the process of re wiring the land rover using mostly new looms but i am having issues in a couple of areas.
issue 1
i cannot find where to plug in the fuel wiring that comes from the tank into the main loom. does it plug into the main harness in the engine bay or pass through the bulkhead and attach in the cabin area somewhere?
this is the wiring in question. so far with the wiring i have just matched colours and connectors. this is when i realised i am a little out of my depth after spending ten minutes splicing a new section of wiring into the small loom where it had been previously rubbing against the prop. i had it connected at the tank end but of trial and error and connected it to a connecter in the engine bay which quickly had the wiring smoking and melted the insulation meaning that i will need to make a new mini loom out of my old loom.

issue 2

the wiring coming off the brake fluid reservoir on the master cylinder three wires two black and white and what i presume is an earth, any help to where these connect to the loom would be of help a picture would be perfect.

and issue 3
the original engine was a 2.5 td which used this arrangement for the glow plugs. with the yellow crimped thick red and thin brown going to the ignition barrel and the thick brown/red tracer being what i believe is the feed to the glow plugs being controlled by the push switch. now this is where it gets complicated I have fitted a ignition barrel from a td5 which allows me to use one key for the doors and the ignition will this be ok for me to use the original type glow plug wiring or should i wire it to glow on spring of the ignition (the cranking part)

my old loom was fitted with this switch which looks to me like it could also be something to do with the glow plugs this never seemed to do anything when i started the engine before it came a part? can some one confirm what it does/ should do.

Fuel tank wires attach to big plug in engine bay. The brake wires go into the bulkhead and attach somewhere in there. Dunno bout the glow plug wiring and that switch is for dash illumination and interior light

bottom switch isnt anything to do with glow plugs ,more dash and interior lights ,wires connect at side of clutch pedal box for tank and wires for brake res come through bulkhead ,td5 ign switch wont have a terminal just before cranking to work that relay you will need a timer relay that comes on with ingnition lights then goes off till next time ingnitions used or a seperate switch

thanks chaps, james would it work if i just rewired the original glow wiring and refitted it with a new switch, that switch looks a little "dodgy" to me ? if the td5 means i need a different relay i think i will try and work the original keeping the costs down. i plan to fit a 300 tdi if that makes a difference?

if someone could take the time to photo there correct connection for the fuel tank wiring it would be a big help.

Is that switch for your interior lights? Did it sit to the right of the steering column on the dash along with the hazard switch and one other.

yeah I've sorted that now, i had a play with it but never actually saw any difference when using it but now i know what it does it works fine, i just thought that the instrument lights came on with the sidelights and that the interior lamp was switched up top on the fitting. so thats the mystery switch sorted and the glow plugs sorted just the brake warning connector and the fuel sender wiring, I'm off up to the garage to have another go at them now

right I've sorted some of my issues, after spending most of last night searching google i found some info on the fuel gauge wiring so that was my first port of call. it turns out that the auto sparks chassis loom i have also has wiring for a td5 type rear mounted tank which was connected on the chassis to bulkhead connector meaning there was not empty/corresponding terminal for my tank connection the search highlighted the connection which i unplugged and then connected my loom and to my surprise the needle on the gauge lifted. I've made up a new loom after frying my old one and its all working fine apart from the fuel light not illuminating but that doesn't bother me to much.

the glow plug wiring has been rewired to the original relay and will be operated using a carling switch on my dash (hopefully Raptor) and the mystery switch is operating as it should so my only remaining issue is my inability to find the connector for the brake fluid warning light.

Which end? The loom to the dash, or brake cylinder to loom? I can take some photos tomorrow if you want ( Weather pending of course, it's currently torrential which I'm not going out taking photos in )

Here's like it is in mine. The wire goes behind the cylinder to the block of wiring to the right of the fuel filter....

Which is this big bunch. It seems to then split again (once connected to another 2 way connector) one end going to the big block you see, and also off through the bulkhead to the brake light....
