I have given my old iphone to the wife, but as its registered and synced to me can she register it and use her own password and sync to the mac, i know i can restore it but then she will lose all contacts and apps.

Cant you download contacts and apps onto ya iphone account and then load them back on after you have restored ya phone to original settings?
