Yup that's old school, exactly what I was taught by my grandfather - he protected all his cars that way, he always flooded cavities (didn't have a spray but had a 'hand pump') and put trays under drain holes to catch the run off when he uncorked them ;-) - he never used Waxoyl - just waste engine oil though he used Paraffin not diesel.

Has anyone used the chap in Warwick who does the 20/30 liter waxoyl jobs ?

I have read a lot of 'never again' type posts when others are let loose ... pretty much why I am resigned to doing a job I passionately detest.

Unfortunately I didn't have the Disco in the 'summer' so it may have to wait till next year, I am not a lover of outdoor activities in the cold, dark and wet season. The state of the chassis may force me to suck it up though ... or simply not drive it on salted roads.

I've done some pressure washing but it needs a lot more and I haven't stripped off bumpers etc to get into cavities. The back of the car is the worst, flaking in a couple of places, solid, but definitely needing TLC. I also need to arrest the corrosion on the pipework which has cleaned up reasonably well.

Thats a lot of money though for something that I believe should be done every two years. They wanted £850 when I called them.

Basically don't bother for a few years and just buy a new galvanised chassis with what you save.

spend over 500 quid a time? after 9 years you could buy a new chassis, which i recon would work just aswell, unless your not washing after off roading ect it should easily last 9 years... id imagine so anyway

old engine oil, mixed with diesel, touch of grease waxoil etc, heat up, spray with a shultz gun, my mx5 and xr31 all done like that, last 20 years, never ever rusted, done every year, just doing the gaylander now.

50/50 Waxoyl/Engine oil blasted inside the chassis. Messy but great at keeps everything solid.
