ive got a knocking/rattling noise comming from front drivers wheel when i go over a uneven part of the road manholes etc & a slight shake on the steering wheel , any help to what it is would be appreciated got a rough idea what it is garages round here are s*** and would rather go in with the right part and ask them to change it rather than them faff about and make the bill bigger than it needs to be any help is appreciated, ive got a 2001 freelander td4 es

Drop links are a fairly common problem, easy fix and quite cheap, other possable causes, track rod ends, wheel bearings drive shafts but less likley

I agree - 99% sure it's the drop links.

Approx £12 each - get the real ones from a LR dealer - and do both sides.

LH side seems to go first - probably because nearer the edge of the road and more holes etc.

An easy cheap fix - wish they were all like that.

Its most likely knackered drop links . You will have to try moving the in all directions ,push upwards the joint for the roll bar then the link will be loose enough to show any wear . Replacement is a 15-20 minute job ,No special tools needed open/ring spanners and allen keys .

Someone here reconed he did one in less than 2 minutes start to finish .;)

if it is not the drop link could possible be the wish bone as these do make a clattering sound when one or more of the joints is worn
