Just aquired myself another Freelander, after my last one died.

This will be used mainly as a weekend off-road toy etc. The one thing I noticed about off-roading is the lack of ground clearance. already have some big, chunky mud tyres, and was looking at a 2" lift, as every little helps!

Is it as simple as fitting the spacers to the strut tops, adjust tracking and away you go?
Someone I spoke to said its better to swap steering arms over (side to side) and another says to cut the part off the strut, and weld it further up, for more clearance...

Any advice appreciated, and will post pictures up soon

Or just get a discovery.

Its meant for occasional offroading. Not beefing up. Will spend your life permanently fixing it. Wheel bearings are not designed for the additional strain a lift kit will put on them on a freelander

Have had a few Freelanders, and have never needed much, other than usual maintenance, and the odd head gasket. I prefer the way a Freelander drives, is normally cheaper to run and repair, and the missus quite likes them too.

And why would a lift kit put strain on wheel bearings? Surely wheel spacers would do that?

It does. Not sure on the technicalities but its true. Spacers also do.

My 90 has had two bits of welding after i bought it and not since. If you find a good one and look after it its fine.

Up to you on the lift but freelander was designed for kerb hopping and occasional field driving

a friend of mine has a 2" lift on his. he's has the spacers above the springs he done it a few mounths ago and has had no problems so far

my lift has been on for years, not a problem at all, no bearing issues or anything else, had to fit camber correction pins when it was done. thats all. Used everyday, too.

Hi, I've got a bearmach 2" lift on mine, 225/75/16 Kumho KL71 mud terrains, camber correction front and rear.
The spacers work well, my handling was terrible until I fitted the camber bolts. You have to adjust the inner wings to allow clearance for the steering on full lock cos it catches. But I'm well impressed with it. Been there done that with 90s and discos, fancied a change and so far not regretting it!

Like wise no bearing trouble, don't really see why you would, cv joints maybe cos they run at more of an angle but it's not that extreme so if they're in good condition,I don't see why they would cause a problem either!

Just had it in for an MOT. Needed a bulb and a drop link
Bought the car (as a non-runner) got it running, and had it MOT'd for £400

Just need to find some camber pins, and time to fit the lift kit, then its time to try it out!

I have a 40mm lift on my 04 Td4 and have had no problems or issues since it was fitted don't listen to the doubters a freelander is good off road, and is a better drive all round I,ve had them all 90s ,disco,s, Td5 RR, and have worked for LR in the past. Fit your kit and enjoy.

It was! It's a D4 belonging to the Land Rover Experience at Eastnor Castle. I did the intermediate course in the freelander, it was quite annoying following numptys in discos and defenders that kept getting stuck! The freelander did everything. Can't say the same for some of the others
