Assume the block is out and stripped does anyone know how much it costs to have a liner replaced?

My engine is only 3 yrs old and was new thor engine direct from Landrover which IO converted to run on Gems pulled the heads off - see other posts - and found cracked in liner right at top think it happened when the gasket failed it totally disintegrated so as it is a late engine thought would like to look at how much a machinre shop would charge to remove damaged liner and fit new one

are you sure its a crack ?,i have replaced many liners a few years back and its not a 5 min job as you need to bore old one out ,fit liner with 3-4 thou interferance fit , skim liner to block face ,bore liner and hone to size, plus the act of fitting can weaken or create stress that will mean block is more likely to crack ,id fit top hat liners to any v8 now ,give these people a ring http://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rc...hLjjt7AOcKmr9PFfg&sig2=HAHSu-XBKiwL0wMyju9IBg

Have a look looks like a crack to me

it does to me when you see it blow up,id go for anther block from acr and fit over your parts ,with new bearings, rings etc

Might be worth sending Mark4x4 a PM. He had his block fitted with tophat liners following a similar crack. I cant remember the name of the place he used but when he dropped off his block there were rows of blocks from some of big names who also offer the service. It cost him around £700 and i think he also got new camshaft bearing as well. It was about 1 year back so he should be able to give you an opinion as to how succesfull the procedure has been. At least that way you can make your mind up whether to go this route or buy a new block.

Sounds like ACR,

I have spoken to a local machine shop in Slough and they will strip out old liner and put new one in and pressure test for 300 quid also do the heads skim both and test for 100 they have a good reputation so will set too geting the block out and stripped down -= will keep everyone updated

At todays rates that sounds good to me. Good luck with it.

Thank you sir will keep all informed as if the job is a goodun then there may be a supplier worth using for all the guys

i think id look at top hat linered block for long term piece of mind ,id get them to pressure test first ,as crack in liner is often caused by crack in block ,what did they price fitting std liner ?
