hi everyone,

i have a P38 DSE spec with the full harmon kardon setup and alpine headunit. The Sub box in the boot has the twin 6.5?" subs in it.

I was wondering if anyone has experimented with polyfil to trick the subs, if so how much has been used. Failing that, doesn anyone know the internal volume of the box, i cant measure mine as car is poorly in the garage being sorted.

Not surprised if its poorly, stuffing polyfil in the underwater dog (sub woofer) ! what the heck for???? and what trick are you playing on the thing? Year of car would help. Want to reduce the volume ?? (space). Why? Sounds crazy to me. I have HC in a 2000 year car and its very good, why mess it up? have you modifyed anything?

First, i have a 2000 DSE.

In answer to your why:
You put Polyfil in the sub box as the fibrous nature of the material when used in the corect amount aids "tricks" the sub and box. The fibres moving in the box give the effect of an increase in box internal volume, hence, giving the effect of a larger box and increasing the performance of the low frequency range of the install. Its a common method used within the audio world to increase a systems performance.

But, it is tuned in amount or it will cause all kinds of issues with the tune of the box and make it boomy.

Am I missing summat here? Are you talking about loft insulation type stuff or the stuff you fill cracks in a wall with?
Either or, harmon kardon know a bit about audio, so i would think the box is already matched to the subs, mine doesn't have the HK system but sounds pretty good , so if the HK system is better it shouldn't need much tuning,

If you do have a play report back and let us know, we all like hearing of new projects

Well I take back what I said. Didn't know you can trick a subwoofer or in our house an underwater dog!
I have a small Sony dog in the house (and a big B&W) that could do with more urge (the Sony)! would it work on that? probably yes - where do you buy polyfil? B&Q?

Hi, polyfil is quite often available from crafty shops, so a quick trip to hobby craft maybe.

Not sure about your home sub, as chances are the box is volume tuned for the sub already. Its a more common thing for cars as the boxes are much more limited in design and overal envelope.

Give it a crack, just google the volume to weight requirement or it will become baffling.
