Hi,

I've been meaning to ask this one for months and keep forgetting.
My screen wash stinks! Like rotten eggs nasty stink.
I've emptied it, flushed it through, put fresh screen wash in within a matter of weeks it stinks again. Had teh same thing last summer when it smelt if cat pee. Now it;s eggs!

I;ve never had this on any other vehicle in 22 years of money pit ownership!

Any ideas?

We had this problem on the locos at work last year.
After much investigating etc, it transpired that different maintenance depots were using different chemical screen washes which caused a chemical reaction which then produced this god awful smell which was, exactly as you say, similar to cat p*ss or rotton eggs!

They had to be flushed time and time again before the smell completely went away. Bear with it and you'll get there.

The plastic bottle and rubber hoses may have absorbed this mixture of chemicals, so depending how tolerable and patient you are with getting rid of the smell, you may wish to change it all for new or 2nd hand.

be VERY careful of windscreen wash fluid, particularly if old, as it is a known source of Legionella disease (L. pneumophila).

Now that I did not know.
Thanks for the advice I thought I was going a bit loo lah for a while, defo single brand screen wash from here. Luckily the mud gets everywhere on the roads so I should flush it through quick enough!

Cheers again!
