Left me interior light on while I haven't used my car, doh, flat battery.... who's an idiot?, also seems that my drivers door lock doesn't operate the central locking anymore, now I presume it uses the switches for central locking for entering the eka? The interior lights come on but am I right in saying they use the door ajar switch? Can the central locking units be stripped? I know the motor worked when I locked it , least its not the number 1 car in the house

You will always get enter EKA code or press fob if you have locked car with fob and unlocked it with key. Have you put the EKA code in? You can then sync the key,it cannot be done if alarm is active. On completing EKA code input doors should unlock and alarm should switch off.

I had a quick go earlier, but it didn't make the indicators flash when I did the 4 turns to the left, I completed the code but didn't do anything , Il get the exact instructions and have another go tomorrow, just took me wifes car instead

Remember the instructions are incorrect, you have to hold in lock position for 10 seconds, then carry out the steps. Otherwise the vehicle counts it as an incorrect attempt.

You will get flashes as you input the first four to the left return to centre movements. But you will not get any flashes as you input the rest of the code. Only when the doors unlock and the alarm message goes will you know you have been successful. Make each movement slowly and carefully. If you fail twice. Remove key open door a shut it, you then get three more attempts. Keep doing this if you cannot get it right until it works. Don't try it three times, because three strikes and your out for half an hour.

You don't have to do this on mine. Just the four turns to the back of the car, and enter the code. Make sure you centre the key after each turn though.

I'm getting pretty good at EKA entry these days.....

Am I right in saying - depending on year is wether you have to do the 4 turns to the Left first...!!

Also, the interior lights are switched by the BeCM once it receives a signal from the Door Latch that it is open....there is not little switch in the pillar like some other cars...it is all integral to the door lock/latch.

The Handbook to my previous '99 DSE didn't mention the 4 initial turns - original handbook too - it had the original Land Rover handover ticket glued to the inside cover!!

It was not a 1999 hand book then. Hand book LRL 0124ENG - Second edition Copyrighted 1998 has it in. That was used thru 1999 until 3rd edition in 2000/2001 and which also has it in. All English export handbooks have it. Australian exports have it. NAS handbooks don't have it. Don't know about Jap version. So if the guy said his was an early one and had it. Which year are the initial four turns to the right not used. Think they all need it.

My 94/95 and my96,you dont have to do the first four turns to the left.I think it changed to having to do the turns half way thru 96.Also the indicators dont flash on my 95 ,but the" lights on" light in the instrument cluster does.

I must have had a handbook from a different year/region then I do know mine was a special commisioned build in late 1999 for the 2000 Wimbledon Tennis Champs - strange as it had the Original PDI Ticket too....still like all things Land Rover - who the feck knows, not even sure Land Rover do either!!

Don't know Ant. I have a copy of the one i quoted (1998 second edition) that came out because of introduction of EGR, and four turns left is certainly in that. It is also in all editions after that. If someone can come up with a Ist edition handbook (Pre EGR) and it is in that, then the you don't need it theory goes out the window.

Right so the early ones don't need the four turns then. Which lamps flash is down to how alarm is set up in the BECM for indicative alerts.
