..............I just bought a 1995 Defender 300 TDi. Unmolested and with a galvanised chassis. Seems to drive well although the brakes need a hefty welly to stop, but it pulls up straight. Slight grinding between 1st and 2nd on occasion but this may be due to air in the hydraulic system 9mat is damp with fluid) or maybe insufficient oil/ATF in gearbox. Engine has a new turbo (unfortunately a Britpart replacement) and starts straight up and seems to pull OK with no smoke of whatever hue and no crankcase pressure that I can discern.

Got me 70 miles back home without a hitch so I am quite chuffed. I have ordered a new timing belt kit and will get that fitted forthwith. Next step is to meet up with Jai at the next Hertford LR owners meeting in Dunstable and hopefully get some pointers.

Did i say I was chuffed?

Fettled, yes, molested, no. No chequer plate, no amateur wiring, no 2" or 4" lift. Just the equivalent of 2 new hips! ;-)
