Air suspensions all new, on 145k, still runs sweet.

As any car and you must agree, p38 or l322, as long as they are looked after and serviced well they will go on forever!
I think a lot of the time its their hopeless owners that cause half of the problems lol

I agree with that to some extent. However lots of things fail on Range Rovers that just go on for ever on other marques. Things like diffs, auto boxes, UJ's, RAD's viscous fans, door handles, even headlinings, I've had 2 Volvo's that got to 280K miles with not much more than a fuel pump relay, hoses and fan belts being replaced. True the leather on the edge of the seat wore through.
LR need to up their game when it comes to the quality and spec of the components they use.

But you are right Data, major parts dont seem to fail as often on the slitty and german motors I have had but they do on landies

Are the auto boxes not made by a German company ? We have them in our buses and they often fail you can't blame Landrover for a contractors supplied part failing only weather it's the correctly part in the first place . Zf boxes are used in other manufacturers vehicles do they have as many failures . Do BMW owners have the same issues ? I don't know but if failures are that common I would think that these boxes wouldn't be oe for so many .

Totally agree with you there. Although on the td6 although it's a GM box that are renowned for being made out of soft metal I think it's partially a design floor with Landrover as I think the box is underrated for the torque produced from the engine.

Maybe I'm wrong, I'm sure someone knows the real story ?

Yep mine also had no problems passing with bypass fitted.

ZF boxes are excellent, the problem lies with BMW (again) penny pinching on the spec and using boxes that are only just within the torque rating of the engines. BMW cars have exactly the same problems, just go look at some BMW forums. The boxes suffer slightly more on Range Rovers because of the weight of the car.
I've never had a problem with a ZF box on any other car I've owned.

Yip, BMW e39 5 series autobox notorious for failing, and usually before 120k miles.

Could well be but most of the failure problems I looked at on a BMW forum concerned the ZF4HP22e

pretty sue they stopped that box in the 6 cylinder e34.

my v8 e34 has a 5hp30 but luckily it had been refurbed before I bought the car at a cost of £1550 back in 05 lol
