I am currently driving a P38 on biodiesel and thinking of changing it.
I had a 300TDi previously and it run great on biodiesel but it is becoming increasingly difficult to find a good, solid 300TDi Disco and 300TDi classic rangies are rare as rocking horse poo.
So I am considering a TD5 and would like to hear any comments on running them on biodiesel.

Well, thanks for all those helpful comments chaps. I must admit, the search facility did let me down a bit, still, maybe I will just stick with the Rangie after all.

I've been running my D2 on and off biodiesel, and sometimes straight filtered used cooking oil. Mix of between 60-90% oil and 40-10% diesel for a good 20k miles. No problems so far

Sorry - been off for a while, so just catching up with commenting on a few biodiesel threads.

I've run my TD5 on biodiesel for 30,000+ miles, absolutely no problems at all. The only problems are from all the other TD5 issues - just got the three amigos a few days ago and I'm waiting for the hawkeye to arrive today to find out what the problem is.

If you need any bio advice just ask.

Few chippys give away oil, they've realised it has a value so probably best to buy new oil from a cash n carry, then you need the kit to refine it, and of course the skills to refine it. I'm not saying its not worth the bother, just that you need to know what you're doing, good luck

Just sling in normal cooking oil.Most weeks when we go shopping at tescos i buy 2x4 ltr could be 5ltr ? i don't look cooking oil 2 for £10 and bung it into my disco 2 tank.Then pop into there garage and put in £10 diesel.

Few chippys give away oil because its the most obvious place people think of for used oil. Pretty much every single small hotel and B&B has waste oil and for many of them its a problem. Big collectors aren't interested in collecting 30 litres a month from a small B&B, they charge them or tie them to buying their new oil from them.

I've found a lot of people are very happy to let you take their oil for free, and the small hotels oil is usually fantastic, the worst oil is from takeaways. Honestly the small hotels and B&Bs are where to find the oil.

I got a website and every now and again get a new email or phone call. My collection has started from small to now regularly getting 200+ litres a month. It's great, you're helping small businesses in your local community and helping the environment and saving a fortune.
